We have started Unit 3 weeks 3 and 4.
The focus skills are Point of View and Synonyms/Antonyms. We will also do some contraction review. The grammar skills throughout Unit 3 are verbs, currently helping and linking verbs.
We will work more with Text Dependent Analysis writing (TDA) using the RACE method (Restate the question, Answer it, Cite text evidence, and Explain your reasoning) We will continue to work with this in between reading Units and during writing as time allows.
Math: Please practice facts. Success in all higher math depends on memorization of the basic addition/ subtraction/ multiplication and division facts. You can use flash cards, Xtra math, Freckle, or simply write them over and over.
We will be starting Rocket Math.
****Practice Buddies and IXLs are due on Feb. 3
Monday: None (due to CDT Math test in school)
Tuesday: pages 559-560
Wednesday: pages 565-566
Thursday: pages 571-572
Friday: (pages 583-584 usually time to complete in school only if score below 70% on-line assessment)
Please make sure students log on to IXL via my website. IXL can be accessed for free-but if they are not on our Brandywine account there is no way I can see the work done, and they cannot get credit for that work. All assigned IXLs and Practice Buddies are due the day of the test for that Topic. The students can redo the IXLs and Practice Buddies as many times as they want before the due date to increase their scores. After the due date, a few of these assignments will be pulled for classwork grades. These are pulled randomly, so the students should do their best on all of the IXLs and Practice Buddies that are assigned.
The students are also logged in to Xtra Math for fact practice. If your child is not fluent in their facts, please practice for five minutes or so each night.
My class is now with me for Unit 11 Forces and Motion. The study guide is due on Wed., Jan. 29. The test will be Thurs., Jan. 30.
